    I realize I'm late to the party but Im having trouble executing the "counter to the counter". His right arm is glued to my hip making it near impossible to "walk" around and create the needed space to roll over not to mention make him lose his base and get on top. Any ideas on how to fix this?

    professor Drew whats your preferred method of getting to butterfly? from a half guard - half butterfly scenario?

    • @BecauseJitsu
      @BecauseJitsu 2 месяца назад

      That's a great question, and my answer may not fit everyone else's game. Which doesn't make mine right, or theirs wrong. For myself, I find it most often when I'm escaping half-guard bottom or mount.

    so you can't cross the outside leg to the inside, but you can cross the inside leg to the outside? how does that make sense?

    • @BecauseJitsu
      @BecauseJitsu 2 месяца назад

      More or less, yes. It has to do with Lateral flexion of the knee joint. It bends naturally when you add inside pressure. It locks and tares when you add outside pressure. That's the idea, anyways.

    Isn't this de ashi harai? 🤔

    • @BecauseJitsu
      @BecauseJitsu 3 месяца назад

      The foot sweep part of the technique could be qualified as a De Ashi Harai application. Though, it would be an odd one. Another common term for these kinds of takedowns are Mat Returns. That's probably the most recognizable phrase these days. I don't get hung up on the terminology, so long as you can execute it 🤙

  • @robbiewoolsey

    Dumb question. Is hooking his knee deep like that enough to stop him from posting that leg and stepping over?

    • @BecauseJitsu
      @BecauseJitsu 3 месяца назад

      The arm hooking the leg is just an anchor that allows you to twist your body quickly. It's not meant to control their leg. If done in unison, the action and angle of the twist should preclude any attempt the post and step over, as it knocks them off balance/center.

    i saw damien maia teach this in one of his instrusctionals. well the part where the forearm goes under the neck. theres a strong guy where i train that likes that position in closed guard. subcribed. i love this stuff. ive been training a while but sometimes the basics are things i forget but the most essential.

    Too much to think about While there must be rule sets the amount of rules and their fine details are more than i can store in my head while in a match a few rules make sense but over regulation leading to a lack of creativity all those illegal moves as they are called many are very practical in a self defense situation

    Ok and if relevant, why do I always hear people saying specifically that it is illegal in Gi BJJ? Do the rules or mechanics differ in NoGi? Also, I've gotten better lately at seeing and chasing the DeLaRiva guard and sweep both in BJJ and MMA. Can anyone who knows more than me (very low bar) envision a possibility of accidentally knee reaping someone doing it?
